Dad Dicks, Dad Butts, & Dad Deaths in “Eat My Flesh, Drink My Blood”Extreme

WARNING: Gore, violence, dead bodies, cult, and ball-busting

Eat My Flesh, Drink My Blood is a trip. I’m still on the fence about whether it’s a good trip or a bad trip.

The story itself is trite (bad), but at least it’s contained in a single, short episode (good). The art isn’t atrocious (good), and basically, everyone’s naked in the second and third acts (also good).

So, I suppose it’s a good trip? But the story is just so predictable that I still think it’s bad. Also, the way they present the writer and artist and colorist as though this comic book were a movie is just… ugh. Like, calm down.

I’m an atheist but I’m familiar with the transubstantiation myth since I was raised Protestant and had six years of Catholic school. Let’s just say that this comic took that concept and ran with it.

The blurb:

Eat My Flesh, Drink My Blood, created by Frankee White (Broken Bear, Starless Daydream), Adam Markiewicz (The Great Divide, Broken Bear, and Into The N-Zone) and A.H.G. (Boom Studios’ Dark Blood, Broken Bear, Starless Daydream) is an absurd romantic horror encompassed in a 52 page magazine-sized graphic novel.

John and Lisa are engaged and looking towards their future when John receives a letter from his past. John’s estranged father is dying, and his mother wants him to meet with them both for mass at their parish. Lisa, curious about this mostly blank spot in her fiancé’s life, presses him to heal his family wounds. John agrees on one condition: Lisa must join him. What comes next is a dive into a uniquely absurd romantic horror by the creative team behind the critically acclaimed graphic novel, Broken Bear, that asks:

“How far will you go to be with the one you love?”

I’d say, art-wise, this is kind of Caligula-lite (Caligulite?). The gore in Eat My Flesh, Drink My Blood isn’t as graphic in any of the Caligula comics.

Anyway, please enjoy our third magic, monsters, and myth October installment for Nerdcore Friday!
