Wow. When we decided that “fucked up” and “poo” would be our theme for January 2026, we didn’t expect the world to agree with us.
Fair warning: if you don’t enjoy scatological humor, do not eat or drink when viewing this post.
Anyway, we were drawn to Rick Veitch’sThe Maximortal because of the superhero’s bulge. This bizarre comic is comprised of seven-issue miniseries. To put it mildly, it’s a parody of Superman (and the superhero archetype). I dug deeper and Veitch is a vocal critique of the Golden Age comic book industry’s exploitation of its creators.
Hence the guano, I suppose.
But back to the bulge. We’ve normalized flat Superhero bulges that our jaws (and pants) dropped when we saw that both Static and Icon are packing in the preview (courtesy of the amazing but ultimately flawed miniseries Cheetah and Cheshire Rob the Justice League). Although Veitch still didn’t want to draw nipples on men.

The blurb:
Seven years before The Amazing Adventures of Kavelier and Clay, Rick Veitch married the larcenous history of the comics business to the outrageous themes and characters of his infamous Brat Pack universe, creating one of the most startling and uncompromising visions of the super-hero archetype ever put to paper.
