G-d’s Butt, Satan’s Cock, Biblical Dicks in “Mary Wept over the Feet of Jesus”

I’m an atheist, but if I weren’t, I’d like to believe G-d was female. Because, why not? That said, I’m glad this book makes Yahweh male because, well, then we can feature him on Nerdcore.

May is Jewish American Heritage Month, and what better way to celebrate it than by showcasing a retelling of the stories from the Hebrew Bible?

This book is inherently delicious and hilarious. I thoroughly enjoyed the anachronism in the slang. Remember Holy F*ck and Holy F*cked? Mary Wept is like Holy‘s sibling, who recounts funny anecdotes with deadpan delivery.

The blurb:

The iconoclastic and bestselling cartoonist of Paying for It returns with a polemical interpretation of the Bible that will be one of the most controversial and talked-about graphic novels of 2016. Mary Wept over the Feet of Jesus is the retelling in comics form of nine biblical stories that present Chester Brown’s fascinating and startling thesis about biblical representations of prostitution. Brown weaves a connecting line between Bathsheba, Ruth, Rahab, Tamar, Mary of Bethany, and the Virgin Mother and reassesses the Christian moral code by examining the cultural implications of the Bible’s representations of sex work.

Original title: Mary Wept over the Feet of Jesus: Prostitution and Religious Obedience in the Bible
